Spring Retreat Agenda
The theme of our program will be the "theory/stuff" divide. We are not presupposing that the division between the two is unproblematic. On the contrary, we hope that dialogue about "theory" and "stuff" will help us better understand the problems inherent in their separation.
At this retreat, we will hopefully discuss several of the following questions (though we are not limited to these): What is "theory"? What is "stuff"? In what ways are they interrelated or separated from one another? Is it accurate that to get a job in today's market one must do some sort of "stuff"? What is the significance of Syracuse's reputation for doing "theory"? Does this reputation serve students or work against them when they enter the job market?
