Sujata is an MA student in the department of Religion, and her research centers on the South Asian diaspora in America, transnational ties, philanthropy, and secularism. Methodologically, Sujata is interested in ethnography and anthropology of religion. Her MA thesis will focus on South Asian American student organizations and the relationship between religion, immigration and community building.

She received her BA in Religion and Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures, with a concentration in South Asian Studies, summa cum laude, from Barnard College in 2015. While at Barnard, Sujata was a Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
