Svetlana A. Peshkova

Professor Peshkova specializes in anthropology of Muslim communities in the Post-Soviet world. Her dissertation research focused on Muslim women leaders in the Ferghana Valley (Uzbekistan). She holds masters degrees in linguistics, theological studies, and media studies, and recently completed a post-doc at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame where she worked on transnational Islamic movements. She has published articles in the Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures and The Politics of Memory: Truth, Healing & Social Justice, and has also directed and produced two documentaries. Peshkova teaches courses on Islamic social movements, political Islam, and gender.
